Housing Development

Housing development.

Nothing like a grant and a few shows in the works to get the studio buzzing.  I always envy the artists who have such neat studio spaces.  How do they do that? 

A drawing. 

Still experimenting with some ideas.  Kind of fun but not getting the clarity of direction yet. 

Playing around in the studio these days.  Interesting results so far.  This one is about 12" Square to the edges.

Okay, here is the finished piece you can see me working on in my previous post.   I am calling it "Side Stroke".  30"X 60"  (76cm X 152cm)  This view is from below, the head, in case you are wondering is above the water. 

Show coming up at Christina Parker Gallery (October 4th 2013)  so I am trying to get a few more pieces done before then.  Here I am preparing the background and then the second image I am preparing the positive for the print.  Basically painting black paint with a broom onto plastic.

Well after some expensive learning experiences this one is finally done.  Treading.  Not sinking, not swimming. 

Dance.

Kind of a dance. 

The images posted here show what came out of the work seen on the previous post.  Yes it is the same work that progressed to this stage.  Finished now.   40" X  60"    Check my post from Friday, 28 September 2012.  There you have some of the beginning stages.

Okay.  This is a studio view of one the three finished pieces.  Along with a detail below.  
The numbers come from the Stock index published daily in the business section of the local newspaper.   

 

 

Still a work in progress, I hope to get these done in the next week. Check out the previous posting (Scroll down.)     These are the same pieces brushed over with numbers printed over top.  Still looks good.  I always hate to move on to the next stage but I will.  (It is good to be back on track with this project) Note: Ultimately the green masking taped edges will come off. 

Help.  I have these beautiful pieces that will soon be covered.  This often happens half way through a piece,  I love what it looks like but it is only half way to completion.  Most of this simple beauty will be covered by the time I am finished. 

New Show

New work hanging in the Rouge exhibition space at the Eastern Edge Gallery St. John's.  This was a one year project of collected photo's out of the local paper here in St. John's, the Telegram.  The photo's were specifically of people in handcuffs, being arrested and escorted into the court room or a police car, or jail.   The result was a 24 foot by 24 inch collage.    That collage is coupled up with a work by Meagan O'Shea, a quilt sewn by people whose lives have become entwined through crime.   A story about Restorative Justice. 

Opening reception Saturday March 2, 12-4pm. 

Our questions for this show......

 What do you need when you have been harmed?
What do you need  from others when you have caused harmed?

Pong used to be my favorite. Just putting the finishing touches on this one today.

Distracted by painting again. 

It seems to be in the nature of working in the studio to say we will work on one project and get side tracked by several.  In this photo there is evidence of me doing all kinds of things except for the large screen printing project I really want to work on.    There is the obvious water colour stuff I am doing for my water colour students, some wrapping for a painting sent out today via Canada Post, and then the less obvious stuff of working on my chain saw to cut wood to heat the studio, tools for changing the headlights in my truck, a piece of melted lead on aluminum that needed to be masked off so I could coat the aluminum with a gloss finish.....  Can you find Waldo, he's not there but why not look anyway maybe I missed him. 

The postive for the next piece.  The broom in the picture served as the brush to make these large brush strokes.  One of these will be transfered for the back drop of the large serigraph print I am working on.  

It has been a while but I am back at it with the water pieces.  This is the beginning stages.  I used to have a boss that didn't think you worked unless you were physically dirty.   I must be covered with invisible computer radion dirt because this process always takes longer than it seems and it sure feels like work.
